Skip The stuff

Skip the Stuff Campaign
What is Skip the Stuff?
Skip the Stuff is a campaign to reduce single-use foodware waste by ensuring that restaurant takeout orders do not automatically include single-use accessories such as plastic utensils, straws, condiments, and napkins. Under a Skip the Stuff policy, these items would be added only upon request by the customer.
Why is Skip the Stuff important?
Single-use foodware is a major contributor to plastic pollution. Every year, billions of unused straws, utensils, napkins, condiment packets, and other accessories are included in takeout and delivery orders and just thrown away. This waste ends up in landfills and incinerators, where it can take hundreds of years to decompose.
How can I participate in Skip the Stuff?
There are two ways to participate in Skip the Stuff:
- Support restaurants that have already implemented a Skip the Stuff policy.
- Ask your favorite restaurants to adopt a Skip the Stuff policy. You can do this by speaking to the manager or owner directly, or by sending them a message on social media.
If you are a restaurant owner or manager, you can learn more about how to implement a Skip the Stuff policy on the Upstream Solutions website.
Here are some tips for reducing your single-use foodware waste:
- Bring your own reusable utensils, straws, and water bottle when you go out to eat.
- If you do need to use single-use foodware, choose compostable options whenever possible.
- Decline single-use foodware items that you don’t need, such as napkins and condiments.
- Recycle or compost single-use foodware items whenever possible.
By working together, we can reduce single-use foodware waste and make Wauconda a more sustainable community.
